My home office is probably my favorite room, but I’m not sure why! Offices denote work, so why would I love that? My office, however, feels more like play, more like my younger self, my growing up days. I have everything in there from paper dolls, teacups, paint, and scrapbook supplies to Beatle and Beach Boy albums. On the downside, I also have all my bills in my desk drawer-not so much fun.
When I bought this house, I really didn’t see the sense in two guest rooms, so I chose my front-yard facing bedroom as my office. After a couple of years, I decided to flip flop the two extra bedrooms so that my office would have a better view. It faces the back yard and all the trees. I like it much better there and spend a good bit of time there. I took off the doors to the two closets and turned them into craft/supply/work areas:
I have an antique cabinet with cups and saucers and other fragile things I’ve kept over the years and another view of the desk shows a project I’m working on for my teachers.
One thing I think all homes should have is a place where you can keep your memories. You can’t always be with your loved ones, but you can have things around you to remind you of them. For instance, among those cups and saucers I have a couple of my mom’s. I even remember (I think) the trips where she bought them.
I also have Carrie’s little silver cup, a little doll my grandmother gave her, and pictures of her on the beach. I also have a picture that Sarah made me this year that brings back such memories! I used to wake the girls up by singing, “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning, Oh What a Beautiful Day”. If memory serves me, they would BEG me to shut up! It’s these things that are housed in my Home Office…..and in my heart….that makes this my favorite room.
